In 1987, Kansas women’s basketball won the Big 8 regular season championship and their conference tournament. The Jayhawks won their first Big 8 regular season title in the middle of Marian Washington’s incredible 30-year career as head coach. Washington, a Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame inductee, would guide the team to 11 NCAA tournament appearances – including two deep runs to the Sweet Sixteen – and earned the first Big 12 Coach of the Year honors in 1997.
